New Leaf Organics

One Farming Mama

Ask me anything

ooops

Ok, so it’s been a little while since I last wrote. I just today attended our last farmers mkt and the weather is officially nasty, so it must be Fall. Whoever gave me the idea to start a blog while having two young kids and a farm to tend to anyways? Well, this week we are slated to plant our garlic and continue field clean up and harvest. For the past week and a half, however, we are up to 10 + inches of rain, so I am not exactly sure when we will be able to get in there to plant. Things are pretty mucky out there but the colors are looking beautiful as you’ll see in the pictures below. You’ll notice our new greenhouses, looking quite lovely against the foliage backdrop. Skimmer has been cursing the day he said he wanted to be in charge of putting up the greenhouses this Summer all on his own. It has taken all Summer long, but they are finally both done (well almost) and I am fairly sure he will never make that mistake again. Searching for a wind-free day to put up the plastic on our greenhouses has been quite challenging in the last month. Sure, you can do the plastic with 1-2 people in dead calm wind. But, if you get any sudden gusts or the wind changes its course it can get very comical very quickly. I am a small person at 5’2 and I have vague, not so fond memories of holding on to that plastic for dear life and trying so hard to will it down until you get it attached enough that it is not at risk for flying off on you. People always talk about the pitfalls of building a house together as a couple, and i am pretty sure greenhouse plastic in the wind can rival any spousal tension a stick frame structure could create. So, alas a fairly calm day with lots of hands to help and, Voila. Grow spinach grow.
